The ELX wagons were built on FCD flat wagons after the FCD’s were no longer required for the Chowilla Dam project. Reclassification to AOBX occurred after Sept 1979. SGX (AOCX) wagons were identical to ELX (AOBX) except that they have ribbed ends. Some wagons were transferred to the slab steel traffic from Whyalla, these wagons were recoded to AKOX.
