History In Service
|
Commissioner Webb introduced 100 Dairy Louvered Vans in 1926. A corrugated roof was added over the old smooth roof. A recode to DRP for those vans fitted with Bettendorf Bogies. A recode to DP for those vans fitted with passenger bogies and a black P on a panel high on the right hand side. Some of these were painted Hawthorn Green and Cream with black bogies. A recode to DS when the fast interstate goods service was introduced in the mid sixties. The S replaced the P in the top right corner. DFS 1, 2 & 3 were used for palletized fruit traffic and had a heavier floor installed. In 1958 a further 25 louvered vans were built and coded DS. These new vans were significantly different from these vans and should not be confused with the original 1926 D/DS vans. The reclassification to ALFA occurred after Sept 1979.
