History In Service
|
The Goods Brake Van was used mainly on goods trains for the transportation of goods, parcels, mail, departmental goods and passengers in second class accommodation, both smoking and non-smoking. Built in the 1890’s through to 1920 they survived into the 1960’s and 1970’s. They were originally painted regal red, which faded to brown. A couple of vans received the hawthorn green and cream paint scheme in 1936.
