History in Service : An all steel open wagon. This was a new build of the Y wagon with some minor changes. Some of these were also converted to narrow gauge. A total of 762 of the YY class wagons were built until Sept 1922, therefore including the Y wagons a total of 1265 similar wagons were operating on two gauges. 433 were reclassified to the YX class and transferred to Port Lincoln. In the 1920’s changes from draw hooks and chains to automatic couplers meant reclassification to YA.
Colour Schemes : SAR dark grey or light grey
Modelling Hints : BGB and Strath Hobbies have kits of the Y
