In 1958, 51 wagons were recoded to OGF1 - 51 and had their axles and axle boxes replaced which increased their capacity to 22 tons. The doors were also modified so that they sealed and they were painted yellow. In 1964 another group were modified and converted to OBF1 - 300. These had their doors further modified and they were intended to carry bulk soda ash and at this point they were painted SAR Light grey with red doors. In 1968 to 1970 the OGF's were all converted to OBF's. In the late 1970's OBF1-200 were reclassified back to OF's.
